Best Bike Routes 

Please note: This section doesn't list all the options for each activity - just the best ones.  There's something for everyone, all ages, all physical abilities and all skill levels.

Pender Island is a great place to ride. These rides begin and end at Prior Centennial Park Campground. Best time of year: Spring and fall. Nice weather and little traffic.

South Pender Island “Out & Back”

Strenuous. 27.2 km round trip. Services en route: Poets Cove Resort & Spa (bike rentals/629.2112). 

This ride has a little bit of everything: Mortimer Spit for an ocean swim, ocean glimpses all along Canal Rd, a flat straight section past the farmlands in Spalding Valley, a stop at Poets Cove Resort & Spa for lunch or a cold beer, and the Gowlland Pt viewpoint and Brooks Pt Reserve at the halfway point.

Clam Bay Road Loop

Moderate. 16.5 km round trip. Services en route: Driftwood Centre, Hope Bay Store, Birdies Bistro at the golf course.

A fast downhill to the Driftwood Centre is followed by a tough uphill S-curve just on the other side of “downtown”. The rest of the ride is mostly rolling, with beautiful rest stop options at the Hope Bay and Port Washington public docks. We often combine this ride with the very demanding 10 min uphill ride to Stanley Point and a hike up George Hill. Watch out for wayward golf balls when passing the Pender Island Golf & Country Club.

Pirates Road to Oaks Bluff 

Moderate. 9.8 km round trip. Services en route: Medicine Beach Market.

Once you pass the SE end of Magic Lake, this is one of the quietest roads on the island. Two km from the junction of Schooner Way and Pirates Rd you’ll arrive at the Oaks Bluff trail. If you want more exercise, continue along Pirates Rd 3 km to the end of Plumper Way. Here you’ll find a beach access and a short trail (straight ahead) to a bench overlooking Boundary Pass and Turn Pt on Stuart Island. Anyone for a dip? On the ride back, you may want to stop for a swim at the Magic Lake Swimming Area. While not nearly as pretty as the ocean beaches, the water is warmer so the swimming season is longer. Magic Lake Swimming Hole. Best time of year: June and July. The algae blooms in August. On a warm summer weekend, the dock and nearby floating dive platform can draw a crowd. Except for the swimming area (with outhouse) and the picnic table and park area at the northwest end, Magic Lake is surrounded by homes.
